This page explains who owns what on The Mind Project, how content may and may not be used, and how we protect the intellectual property of contributors and the people who share their stories.

1. Trade Marks

The following are registered trade marks of Deep Light Media Limited, registered with the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI):

The Mind Project (word mark and logo)
Deep Light Media (group mark)

These marks may not be used without prior written consent [confirm KIPI registration status with your lawyer]. Requests: legal@themindproject.africa.

2. Editorial Content — Copyright Ownership

3. How Our Content May Be Used

Sharing — you may share links to any article freely
Quotation — short quotations (under 150 words) for commentary, criticism, or education, with attribution: "The Mind Project (themindproject.africa), [title], [date]" — consistent with the Kenya Copyright Act (Cap. 130) fair dealing provisions
Educational use — educators and mental health professionals may reference our content with attribution

4. How Our Content May Not Be Used

The following are strictly prohibited:

Reproducing substantial portions of any article (more than 150 words) elsewhere
Republishing lived-experience narratives in any form or context
Using AI tools to scrape, ingest, or train on our content
Using our content for commercial purposes without a written licence
Presenting our content as your own (plagiarism)
Using our content in a way that strips out content warnings or crisis resources

5. Contributor and Author Rights

Authors of lived-experience narratives retain moral rights, including the right to be identified (or to remain anonymous) and the right to object to uses that would distort their meaning or damage their reputation, consistent with the Kenya Copyright Act (Cap. 130), s.32. Authors may withdraw their content at any time — see our Privacy Policy.
